You heard it right! Now cruising down the magnificent Ganges criss-crossing the lofty Himalayas dotted with verdant terrains will soon be a reality and experience to remember!
A cruise in the holy and expansive Ganges is up for among the very best in the world along with the likes of the Volga and the Danube! Reputed international publication Conde Nast Traveller has put the Ganga cruise on its checklist as one of the “top six river cruises to take in 2017.” Conde Nast has placed the luxury cruise vessel Ganges Voyager II, which sails on the Ganga from Kolkata to Varanasi, in the league of cruises on the Mekong and the Yangtze in China, the Amazon in South America, the Volga in Russia and the Irrawaddy in Myanmar.
Mr. Nitin Gadkari, the Indian Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister dreams to make India a global hotspot for cruise tourism — be it river or sea. Massive work is in progress on the Ganges for initiating cruise tourism and to make the river clean and pollution-free. Mr. Gadkari said that about 168 cruises arrived in major ports last year; hence, a terminal in Mumbai is being constructed spending Rs. 800 crore. The entire idea is to put India on the forefront of global cruise map. What’s more? It also comes with a lot of promise for job creation.
